How To Use The Editorial Toolkit A practical reference
This page shows how images, quotes, asides, and section breaks should be used in real articles rather than in isolation.
The first paragraph should do the real work. It needs to establish the
article's argument, not merely introduce the game. That is why most of the
presentation system exists to support clarity and rhythm rather than to
show off components for their own sake.
Inline media should be used when it adds texture, evidence, or visual
contrast. It should not appear just because you have an image handy.
Default inline image: use for artwork, screenshots, or scans that directly support the point being made.
Pull quotes work best when they distill the article's real claim. They
should create breathing room and emphasis, not repeat filler. Use them
rarely.
The component system should strengthen the argument of the piece, not become the argument.
Editorial rule
Asides are for useful context that would interrupt the main flow if left in
the body. Translation notes, version notes, and small historical caveats
are ideal.
Wide image: use sparingly when you want a more cinematic break in the page rhythm.
Section breaks should separate the article from its companion material. That
includes the Continue box and sources. They are not decorations to scatter
through the prose.
